Scope of Work

The electrification of the stretch of the Algarve line between Tunes and Lagos with the 25 kV/50Hz system also includes the following work:

  • Lowering of approximately 400 meters of track to enable electrification under elevated crossings at PK 337,690, with all associated platform, drainage and slope work;

  • Wok on the metal bridges of Portimão and Vale da Lama to install overhead contact line;

  • Painting of the Vale da Lama Bridge;

  • Construction of a new support infrastructure for signaling and telecommunications systems;

  • Installation of traction current return system and soil protection;

  • Work on unstable slopes or those with a lack of space on track pathways to allow the installation of overhead contact line support structures;

  • Demolition, rehabilitation or installation of new longitudinal and transversal drainage, more specifically, in the areas where the track is to be lowered where insufficient drainage was encountered, ensuring compatibility with cabling channel and overhead contact line support structures;

  • Work on buildings at stations and secondary stops, more specifically, requirements arising from the installation of the fixed electrical traction infrastructure, such as the earthing connection of metal elements and the adaptation and construction of telecommunications rooms;

  • Requalification of level crossing pedestrian walkways at Pk 313+914 through the construction of an elevated road crossing at Pk 314+254;

  • Removal of level crossing at Pk 324+964, through the construction of an elevated road crossing at Pk 324+964;

  • Requalification of level crossing pedestrian walkways at Pk 330+572 through the construction of an elevated road crossing at Pk 330+009.

Benefits

  • The conclusion of this work will ensure that the Algarve line can be used by electric powered rolling stock, thus providing environmental advantages and improved quality of rolling stock;
